We wanted to give you a sneak peek at the brilliant cast of ‘Caroline’s Kitchen’ as they prepare for a their first night at Derby Theatre (photos by Sam Taylor) and a few facts about how they prepare for the show…
We spoke to Jasmyn Banks who plays Amanda.
Do you have any backstage rituals or superstitions?
Superstitions not so much but I never utter the “M” word and I wince if someone wishes me luck instead of “break a leg” or my fave “best of British!”.
How do you warm up before a show?
For warm up I do 30 mins of core strength work out, stretch and meditation session in my dressing room. Then we gather together on the stage for a vocal warm up as a company. Then as I’m doing my make up I listen to music, dance about abit like the nutter Amanda is and then I am READY.
Do you have any funny stories or anecdotes from behind the scenes of Caroline’s Kitchen?
There’s an ongoing company debate about the pronunciation of the word “traipse” which I think shall continue… I shan’t name any names but someone seems to think the posh version is “traipe- es” which makes us giggle.
How do you make yourself feel at home in a theatre for the week?
This question made me laugh because I fully set up camp as soon as I arrive at a new theatre. I have a plug in essential oil diffuser to make my dressing room smell nice, I have my own tea cup I tour with and I like to scatter about my products in my dressing room as if it’s my home. I also like to run all of the isles of a new theatre to get a feel for each seat in the house and a feel for the space.
What is your favourite theatre to work in or are you most excited to visit?
I haven’t worked in most of the theatres we are touring so I’m excited to visit them all however Bath I am very well acquainted with and I just adore it.
